How to Write a Letter

A letter is the best medium of expressing ones ideas, thoughts and views. It helps in expressing many emotions and feelings which you cannot express directly or on the telephone. Letters are still the best medium of communication amongst all the latest mediums that have been introduced with the help of advanced science and technology. Letters can be written to interact in every sector of life so it is divided into different categories like formal letters, personal letters and semi formal letters. The style of writing each letter is different but easy.

Points to Consider

While writing a letter the first thing that should be kept in mind is the type of letter that is being written. If it is a personal letter then it should be cheerful containing all the news about all the people who are acquainted to you and the letter should be written in a conversational tone as though the person is sitting in front of you.

In the formal or semi formal letter always be brief and stick to the matter about which you have to discuss. The most important point that you have to keep in mind while writing these type of letters is that you should be polite but empathetic while putting forward your ideas, requests or queries. While addressing the formal letters be formal while addressing the receiver or follow the same pattern of addressing them which they have used in their letter. If you address the letter by name then end it with ‘yours sincerely’ and if it is formal address then end with ‘yours faithfully’.
