Proof Reading and Editing

The proofreading and editing work is a compulsion for every type of written text whether it is a manuscript or a digital text. The work of proofreading and editing involves the task of thoroughly reading the manuscript that has to be printed and detecting all the errors in sentence construction, spelling, grammar and punctuation and then correcting the whole manuscript which is known as editing the text. The whole process is done manually by experts who are called proofreaders.

How the work is done?

The work of proofreading and editing is done in three ways. The methods are rewriting, copy editing or ghost writing. It is the work which cannot be overlooked or avoided especially in the field of transcription, publishing and translation.  All kind of work that has to be published passes through various stages of proofreading and editing so that the final version is totally flawless when it is printed.

The work of proofreading and editing is done by people who work in a hierarchal order so that there are no chances of any kind of writing mistakes being overlooked. Proficiency in proofreading and editing can be obtained only through experience and practice. The other methods of proofreading and editing can be done individually from home.

The whole text is read by the proofreader and necessary changes are made but the actual publishing is done in the name of the person who has written the manuscript. This is called ghost writing. The rewriting or copy editing is done keeping in mind the style of the original text and only correcting the common errors to make the manuscript flawless before being published.
