How to Use Conversation in Writing
Research has shown that the human brain remembers conversations more than it remembers written text. For some reason, the brain classifies conversations as important aspects in your life that should be kept for future reference. Therefore, articles written in a conversational tone will cause the brain to assume you are holding a real conversation. Not only will you remember what you have read, but you will also find it more interesting to read. A conversational tone maintains a reader’s attention and ensures they read on to the very end. Various aspects are incorporated in the English software to make an article conversational. Some of them go against what professionally trained writers have been taught not to do. One of them includes starting a sentence with the words ‘and’ and ‘but’. In fact, most English software and writing software will detect this as an error. When you start a sentence with any of these two words, your brain immediately goes to conversation mode and whatever comes after that word is stored. Another aspect incorporated in modern writing software is use of contractions. Although this is not necessarily correct in formal writing, it maintains the reader’s attention and ensures that the article is simple to understand. Just like in real conversations, the use of jargons and complicated words is ruled out. When a reader comes across two or three jargons, chances are that they will stop reading that article.
Making use of conversation in article writing also requires some formality. This means that you should not write an article the same way you would write a text message. If using contractions, they should be accepted by the English software as grammatically accepted contractions. One should not have to struggle trying to get the meaning of certain shortened words. After writing the article using the writing software, the next thing that you should do is read it aloud. It will sound as if you are actually talking to someone. It will also bring out a friendly and readable tone that most textbooks do not have.
One should use conversational tones in writing but only to some extent. Not all articles should be written in conversational tones. When writing legal or official documents, it is wise to remain formal according to the English software. Additionally, too much of it will make your article lose the seriousness or gravity that it deserves.
