Showing Your Appreciation In Words
When a person, product or a service has truly made even a small difference in your life, it’s only fitting that you show your appreciation for them. It feels good to be appreciated. For individuals, such an acknowledgement can prove a real boost to the spirit. For businesses, it lets them know they’re on the right track.
Letters of appreciation need not be formal nor well-written. In fact, more than a few folks I know type up a simple “Thank you” with a few kind words to show their gratitude. However, well-written words of thankfulness can show how much you value the communication and how much care went into preparing the letter.
Be Personal
Make letters of appreciation feel personal. Don’t copy-and-paste a sample letter off the internet and skip using the templates from your English writing software. Instead, construct one with genuine gratitude. It will show.
Tell Them Why
While a simple “Thank you for everything” is all well and good, it’s infinitely better to tell them the reasons that you are thankful. It lets people take pride in the things they do knowing others appreciate those actions specifically.
Be Direct
No need to get flowery with your words. A direct letter teeming with gratitude is a pleasure enough on its own.
Be Sincere
Never try to use a letter of appreciation to get at a hidden agenda. Any letter that starts with thankful words and praise that end with favors at the end just feel sleazy.
